The New Zealand falcon or karearea (Falco novaeseelandiae) is New Zealand’s only falcon and its most threatened bird of prey.
In 2014, three falcon chicks - Honour, Pari and Hohoro - were introduced from Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre to Martinborough, Wairarapa. Unfortunately, Hohoro was taken by predators.
This artwork is called Wish You Were Here. Honour is wearing the female version of the twist or Pikoura Pounamu, which symbolises the bond between loved ones. Hohoro’s pounamu is hanging on the fence post in the foreground.
Wild Grey Fox reproduces images by Nikki McIvor onto prints, cards and homewares like tea towels and reusable grocery bags. Our aim - objects that are lovely to use, ecologically responsible and made to last.
