The Whitehead or Popokatea,is endemicof New Zealand and is a North Island -only inhabitant of dense native woodlands and mature pine plantations of New Zealand.
This compact songbird is usually heard before it is seen due to its constant chatter and living with up to 8 other whitehead members .
Whiteheads were viewed by Māori to have roles as messengers of the gods and as fortune tellers or clairvoyants.
